Back in April of 2022, I had been making candles for close to a year. What started as a pandemic hobby had blossomed into an obsession with making fun scents and trying new things, but was still mostly just something I was doing for fun and the occasional gift for friends and family. Those friends and family kept asking when they'd be able to buy my candles, and I put them off, because I wasn't sure I ever wanted to sell them - the thought of all of the testing, legal aspects, buying insurance, setting up a company, seemed overwhelming.
In early May, the leaked Supreme Court opinion dropped, signaling the Roe v. Wade was likely to be overturned. Like most women, I was sickened, horrified, angry. As we discussed the news, and our feelings of rage and helplessness, my husband said "why don't you sell some of your candles and donate the profits to abortion access funds? We could call it Burn it All Down". With that conversation (and a lot of paperwork and planning), Ephemera Candle Co. was born, beginning with the Burn it All Down candle. Profits from the sale of this candle will go directly to abortion access funds, to support the people most harmed by the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
